Our Puerto Rico Adventure- Merlix and Dwight’s wedding

What a week. Our trip to the El Conquistador in Puerto Rico was even better than we imagined. We started by scouting all day Friday, really finding all the neat spots at the resort that were just breathtaking photographic locations. I was eyeing the Margaritas at the pool bar, while Ric was eyeing all the amazing angles and perspectives for his shots. We started our work officially on Friday night at Merlix and Dwight’s rehearsal. It was right on the big terrace overlooking the ocean. The wind was blowing, the sun was bright, the water was amazingly turquoise blue–what a setting. The two of them just seem to compliment each other so well–she was in her element organizing the rehearsal and fine-tuning all the details. He was in his happy place with his sunglasses, ipod, big headset and huge music library to chose from. Dwight is a music producer, and his music is incredibly important to him. He was never very far from those headphones and ipod! (except during the ceremony!)

Afterwards, we shot at the rehearsal dinner which was an intimate gathering for their immediate families and bridal party. The gave each person a special gift and said something loving and warm as they gave it. I was especially touched at how emotional Merlix was when she came to her Mom. She said that her Mom is her rock, and her inspiration. It was beautiful.

We woke up the next morning, and after our amazing breakfast, got ready to shoot. Our first stop was Merlix and the girls. Erica B from MAC at Lenox flew in to do her make-up which was just beautiful. Merlix’s gown was from Isabella Margianu in Buckhead and was gorgeous. And, I think her flowers were some of the prettiest we’ve seen. The bouquets were just the right size and so lovely.

After prep shots of the ladies, we hung out in the guys’ room and got some shots of Dwight (with sunglasses, ipod and headphones) until it was time to do the formals at the alter which wasn’t quite ready. So, we improvised and it wasn’t difficult to find a pretty spot for other shots.

The wedding was beautiful. They wrote their own vows and both had huge smiles for the entire ceremony. It is obvious that they fit together. And, as if I haven’t said this enough in other blog entries, we LOVE seeing couples that fit so well together.

The celebration was so much fun! The room was beautiful, each table had a framed card with a date instead of table number. They were dates that were special to the couple (day they met, first date, etc etc) The flowers were beautiful, and the cake was too. The music was a mix of Spanish music and fun dance music. I would have LOVED to be a guest at this wedding just to dance to the fantastic music they selected!

I loved that after the Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dances, Merlix danced with her Mom. They were both so emotional and so obviously adore and treasure each other. That really touched me.

The best part for me, other than the phenomenal music, was to see a couple who seem to be so different, yet are so connected to each other and so meant for each other. Buena Suerte, Merlix and Dwight…
